Where an ice-breaker meets romance, you & your guests have FUN!
When planning your wedding celebration, love & laughter are always two key themes. Well how about combining both into one FUN ice-breaker? Enter the Shoelywed Game! A lighthearted activity that’s equal parts entertaining and sweet, the Shoelywed game is guaranteed to bring instant fun to your reception.
What Is the Shoelywed Game?
Well, there's not much to it! The newlyweds sit back-to-back in the middle of the dance floor, each holding one of their own shoes and one of their partner’s. The DJ (or MC) asks a series of fun questions like:
“Who made the first move?”
“Who’s the better cook?”
“Who’s most likely to be late?”
Instead of answering out loud, each person raises the shoe that matches their answer. The results? Hilarious moments, unexpected answers, and plenty of applause from your guests.
Why It Works
Inclusive Entertainment – Everyone in the room gets to be part of the fun, from kids to grandparents.
Unscripted Laughter – The couple’s answers often surprise each other, which creates genuine, memorable reactions.
Quick & Easy – It only takes about 10 minutes, creating instant fun without taking up too much time.
Personal Touch – The questions can be customized to fit your personalities and relationship.
The Cheat Code
Keep It Short – 12–15 questions is the sweet spot.
Mix It Up – Balance lighthearted questions (“Who hogs the blankets?”) with sweet ones (“Who said ‘I love you’ first?”).
Let Your DJ Guide It – An experienced DJ or MC can keep the pace lively and the crowd engaged.
Make It Visual – Position the couple in the center of the room so guests can see every reaction.
It's A Pop Quiz – The newlyweds should not script the questions. Allow your DJ or MC to craft the questions to keep you on your toes.
The Shoelywed Game is the perfect blend of humor, romance, and connection. It gives guests a glimpse into your relationship while adding a playful spark to the night. In just a few minutes, you’ll create memories (and photos!) you’ll laugh about for years to come.
